A detailed early-pregnancy ultrasound to establish gestational age and provide important information about your pregnancy.

A First Trimester Dating Ultrasound evaluates your pregnancy during the early stages to establish or confirm gestational age and provide an estimated due date.

What’s Included

  • Diagnostic ultrasound evaluation

  • Interpretation by a board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician

  • Finalized diagnostic report

  • Printed ultrasound images to take home

What This Ultrasound Evaluates

During your examination, detailed ultrasound imaging and measurements are obtained to evaluate your early pregnancy. Depending on gestational age and what can be visualized, the examination may include:

  • Maternal anatomy

  • Location of the pregnancy

  • Number of embryos/fetuses

  • Crown-rump length (CRL) and gestational age

  • Estimated due date

  • Presence of fetal cardiac activity

  • Early pregnancy structures and other clinically appropriate findings

Crown-rump length is the standard measurement used to establish or confirm gestational age during the first trimester.

When Should I Schedule?

This examination is intended for the first trimester of pregnancy, through 13 weeks and 6 days.

Because First Cherished Moments performs abdominal ultrasound only, very early pregnancies may be too small to fully evaluate abdominally. For the best chance of obtaining the necessary images and measurements, we recommend scheduling at approximately 6–7 weeks or later.

Preparing for Your Appointment

Please arrive with a comfortably full bladder for your early-pregnancy ultrasound. A full bladder can help improve visualization during a transabdominal examination.

All diagnostic ultrasounds at First Cherished Moments are performed abdominally. We do not perform transvaginal ultrasound examinations.

After scheduling, you’ll receive an email with important pre-appointment information and paperwork to review. All required forms will be completed and signed in the studio at your appointment.

Your Results

Your ultrasound will be performed by a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) and submitted for interpretation by a board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician.

Your sonographer cannot provide or interpret diagnostic findings during your appointment. Once the examination has been reviewed, a finalized diagnostic report will be provided according to your selected report-delivery preferences and can be shared with your healthcare provider.

Please Note

Ultrasound findings may occasionally require additional imaging, follow-up, or further evaluation by your healthcare provider. A First Trimester Dating Ultrasound does not replace routine prenatal care or an established relationship with an obstetric healthcare provider.
